Recently, Stanford University and Elsevier jointly released the 2026 list of the World’s Top 2% Scientists. A total of 20 scholars from the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences, were selected for the list. Among them, 12 were included in the “Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking,” and 19 were included in the “Annual Scientific Impact Ranking.” 11 scholars, including LI Xiaosen, JIANG Fangming, and YUAN Zhenhong, were selected for both lists.

The list of the top 2% of scientists worldwide is divided into the “Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking” and the “Annual Scientific Impact Ranking.” The Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking assesses the impact accumulated throughout a scientist’s entire academic career to date, while the Annual Scientific Impact Ranking focuses on academic achievements from the previous year. Based on the Scopus database, the list comprehensively evaluates multiple metrics—including citation counts, H-index, co-author-adjusted HM-index, and the number of citations for papers authored solely or as first author—for approximately 10 million scientists worldwide. It covers the top 2% of scientists globally across 20 disciplinary fields and 174 sub-disciplines, and is recognized for its high international authority and credibility.

This selection fully demonstrates the GIEC’s academic influence and research capabilities in the fields of energy and related interdisciplinary areas. It reflects the positive outcomes of the Institute’s efforts in disciplinary development and the cultivation of a high-caliber talent pool, and holds significant importance for expanding the Institute’s international influence. The Institute will seize this opportunity to continue deepening reforms and elevate scientific research innovation and disciplinary development to new heights.
