From 18th August to 22nd August the 19th International Sedimentological Congress (ISC2014) had been held in Uni-Mail, Université de Genève, Geneva, Switzerland. ISC2014 was organized by International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS). More than 900 sedimentologists and geologists, coming from more than forty countries and districts, meet together in Geneva. SU Ming and YANG Rui presented their study results during ISC2014.
With the theme “Sedimentology at the Crossroad of New Frontiers”, ISC2014 covered all field of sedimentology, including continental depositional environments, marine and coastal depositional environments, processes in sedimentation, basin analysis, from sediments to rocks, applied and resource sedimentology, predicting and visualizing sedimentary, volcano-sedimentology, climate and Earth surface environments in deep time, sedimentary organic matter.
On 18th August, YANG Rui brought his poster to ISC2014. He made his poster presentation about Sedimentary and structural hosted gas hydrate in shallow sediments in the Shenhu survey, northern continental slope of the South China Sea. Some investigators was interested in his study and exchange views with him on control factors on gas hydrate.
SU Ming, represented GuangZhou Institute of Energy Conversion (CAS) to attend ISC for the first time, made his oral presentation on 19th August. His presentation was titled “Morpho-sedimentary features of the slope-confined submarine canyons in the Shenhu Area, northern continental slope of the South China Sea: the sediment routing system from north to south”. Although this professionally speech lasted only fifteen minutes, his idea and performance won applause and general acceptance. After the presentation, some scientists made a warmly talk with Dr. SU.
ISC is the most valuable international congress in sedimentology field. It takes place every four years in a different city around the world. ISC2018 will be held in 2018 in Québec, Canada.
