Research Centers

Driven by the national “Dual Carbon” (Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality) goals and the imperative for green development, the Center leverages its interdisciplinary expertise and pioneering foundations in traditional organic waste valorization to spearhead the recycling of emerging solid waste. We are committed to bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial application to foster a sustainable circular economy.

The Center focuses on several cutting-edge directions that redefine the lifecycle of new energy materials: (i) Developing low-entropy physical dismantling and high-efficiency thermochemical deconstruction technologies; (ii) Engineering targeted multi-scale reconstruction and upcycling of dissociated components into high-value functional materials; (iii) Implementing a holistic pollution mitigation framework that couples source reduction, process inhibition, and end-of-pipe elimination; (iv) Constructing multi-boundary coupled intelligent co-management systems and comprehensive life-cycle performance optimization methodologies.

The Center hosts the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of High-quality Recycling of End-of-Life New Energy Devices and is currently leading a major infrastructure initiative under the national “14th Five-Year Plan” to enhance new energy device recycling capacities. Our research has been featured in premier scientific journals, including Nature and Matter. Beyond academia, our core technologies and proprietary equipment have been successfully deployed in global projects in collaboration with numerous industry-leading enterprises.

As of December 2024, The Center boasts a robust and diverse team of 115 staff members, including 26 professors and 21 associate professors. Our vibrant academic community includes 153 students (39 Ph.D. candidates and 114 Master’s students). Our distinguished faculty includes: 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; 2 scholars of the National High-level Talent Special Support Program; 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars (Overseas); 3 awardees of the Guangdong Provincial Talent Programs.
