In response to the critical national strategic demand for the exploration and development of deep-sea energy resources, particularly natural gas hydrates, our research center is dedicated to advancing fundamental research and driving technological innovation in hydrate-related fields. We pursue an integrated research paradigm that spans micro-, meso-, macro-, and system-scale processes, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to construct a comprehensive innovation chain—from hydrate formation mechanisms and accumulation dynamics to resource assessment, production theory and technology, and derivative applications. Our mission is to address key scientific and technological bottlenecks in China's hydrate exploration and production, thereby providing a robust scientific basis and technical support for national hydrate extraction initiatives.

The center is home to a distinguished research team, including two recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, one recipient of the National Young Top-notch Talent Award, and six researchers recognized at the provincial and ministerial level for their outstanding contributions. Our accomplishments include one second-class prize of the National Technological Invention Award and five provincial and ministerial-level awards. Notably, our center ranks first globally in both the number of publications and total citations in the field of natural gas hydrates, and we maintain a leading position worldwide in the number of invention patents granted.
