Position:Director of the Solar Energy Research Team

About

XU Gang is a Level II Researcher and Doctoral Supervisor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is a recipient of the prestigious CAS "Hundred Talents Program" and enjoys the Special Government Allowance of the State Council. He serves as an Executive Director of the Chinese Renewable Energy Society, among other academic roles. His research focuses on new materials and technologies for solar energy utilization, with an emphasis on overcoming critical challenges in solar photothermal conversion materials, next-generation photovoltaic systems, solar functional materials, and the integration of renewable energy in building energy conservation. Dr. Xu has led the successful transformation of 18 patented solar thermal products and equipment into large-scale industrial production. This includes the development of China's largest fully automated coating production line, with an annual output of 5 million square meters, breaking Germany's long-standing monopoly in the high-end solar coating market. In 2016, as part of the 8th batch of technology aid experts sent to Tibet by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, he advanced the demonstration and application of solar technologies, achieving groundbreaking results in the implementation of solar central heating systems in high-altitude, cold regions. He has presided over more than 30 national, CAS, provincial, and municipal projects, published over 200 academic papers, and holds more than 30 national invention patents and 3 international patents.
