The 5^th Workshop between Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIEC, CAS) and Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) was held in Guilin, Guangxi from 1^st to 2^nd April.

The workshop is hosted by two institutes and there is a long history of cooperation between GIEC and KIER from 2005. The aim of the workshop is to strengthen the cooperation of two institutes and develop the technologies and communication in new and renewable research.

In this session workshop, there were seventeen presentations coming from both parties. They were about the development and researching on biomass energy, solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, fuel cells and etc. The participants didn’t only exchange the ideas on each research, but also have a deep discussion about how to cope with the bottleneck and key technical problems.
