Guangzhou Moving on Low-carbon Road

The Forum on Urban Energy Conservation,Emission Reduction and Low-carbon Technology Development kicked off in Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIEC, CAS) on August 18.

The forum attracted about 100 people from enterprises and government to discuss the role of low-carbon technology in developing green economy in Guangzhou and making it a low-carbon city.

CHEN Yong, president of CAS Guangzhou Branch, delivered a speech titled Low-carbon Age and Technical Innovation at the forum. “The development of low-carbon economy is an inevitable choice in the course of history,” said he.

ZHANG Ye, chief representative of the US Community Organization for Sustainable Development, passed on experience of urban low-carbon practices and community sustainable development in the US.

A representative from Beijing Kangyuan Chuangsheng Environment Protection Technology Company introduced new technologies for urban garbage disposal and gave cases of their application.

SHEN Hui, director of Institute for Solar Energy Systems of SUN Yat-sen University, provided information on the application and development of solar energy in urban energy conservation and emission reduction. He also introduced the development of photovoltaic power system at home and abroad, particularly that in Guangdong Province.

FENG Ziping, a research fellow in GIEC, made a report on the application of thermal storage and latent heat transportation technologies with ice slurry for central air-conditioning system in building a low-carbon city.
