Dr. Jiashun Yu from Royal Society of New Zealand visits GIEC
Dr. Yu Jiashun, from Geological & Nuclear Science, Royal Society of New Zealand, visited Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) and Guangzhou Center for Gas Hydrate Research during Aug.17 to 22.
In the morning of August 19, Dr. Yu gave an academic lecture entailed “characteristic simulation of multi-beam backscatters and its relations with natural gas hydrate”, in which the theoretical basis and significance of Backscatters, along with its application expectation in the field of natural gas hydrate, were introduced in details.
During 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake, Dr. Yu came to Wenchuan as the team leader of Scientific Reviewing Team New Zealand. In this visit to GIEC, combining his self-experience in Wenchuan, He talk about scientific reviewing report of New Zealand about the Earthquake. Moreover, Dr. Yu also introduced self-saving awareness and methods that people should hold in earthquake and other incidents.
During his visit, students and researches of GIEC received technical training from Dr. Yu in terms of multi-beam, earthquake date processing and inversion as well. Both sides believe that they have great interests in making cooperation in applying multi-beam backscatters technology into natural gas hydrate research.
