GIEC Attends UN Climate Conference in Cancun

The United Nations Climate Change Conference took place in Cancun, Mexico, from 29 November to 10 December 2010. Liao Cuiping and Luo Zhigang, representing Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC), participated the conference.

In the side event of “pushing ahead Sino-Us cooperation in tackling climate change” held by Global Environmental Institute (GEI) on Dec.6, Pro. Liao Cuiping talked about Sino-Us cooperation prospect from a technical level, with giving a presentation.

Sheemphasized it is important to pay attention to the cost benefit analysis and macro-economic impact assessment of the policy, to enhance the openness and transparency of data, to advocate the participation of the parties at interest, which are helpful in the development of low-carbon planning and climate policy of Guangdong province. 

At the end of the presentation, Pro. Liao said that GIEC would cooperate with GEI and CCS, localizing the CCS’s measures, to formulate effective and easily implementing programs for low-carbon development.

As a representative of GIEC, she has been involving in the communication and training activities organized by GEI and Center for Climate Strategies (CCS).

Ms. Reta Jo Lewis, special representative for global intergovernmental affairs of U.S. Department of State and Mr. Jared Snyde, executive of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), along with presents of GEI and CCS, attended the conference as well.
