GIEC Participated in the 16th Asian Pacific Integrated Model Workshop in Japan
The 16th Asian Pacific Integrated Model (AIM) Workshop was held from Feb. 19 to 25 in Tsukuba, Japan. Prof. Zhao Daiqing, Dr. Wang peng, and Huang Ying from Energy Strategy Research Center attended the conference.
The conference theme included the introduction of the Asian Pacific Integrated Model; the application and prospect of AIM; Asia Low-Carbon Society scenarios; Climate change impact assessment on environment and social economy; and Low-Carbon Society – Next step. During the workshop, the representatives from National Institute for Environmental Studies and Kyoto University introduced the feature, application and prospect of AIM; the experts from other countries elaborated the importance of developing low carbon economy and low-carbon society according to their local characteristics, and then they shared their research methods and results. At last, representatives had a heated discussion on how to achieve a low carbon Asia, and developed the work plan for the next stage.
In the conference, with giving a presentation titled “Guangzhou Low Carbon Society Scenario 2030”, Huang Ying introduced the situation of Guangzhou city, the importance and motivation of building Guangzhou into a low carbon society, and the stage achievements of “Guangzhou Low Carbon Society Scenario” study by using AIM/ExSS model.
After the workshop, GIEC was invited to visit the AIM team in Kyoto University. GIEC and KU had academic discussions on the methodology and model in Low Carbon Society Scenario study.
