GIEC Establishes a Gas Hydrate Innovation Team Featuring International Cooperative Partnership

2011-11-11

A brand new team initiated by GIEC named “The innovation team for scientific research in the storage and exploitation of natuaral gas hydrate” successfully passed the expert evaluation and becomes the first-ever innovation team in GIEC.

Led by Prof. Nengyou Wu, this innovation team gathers five backbone young and middle aged Chinese experts from Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion and Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry together with five excellent foreign experts from Canada, U.S, and Australia, etc. During the argumentation meeting, prof. Nengyou Wu delivered a theme report involving the overall blue-print plan for developing the innovation team, while prof. Wenyue Xu (U.S.), prof. Guoping Lu (U.S.), and prof. Xiaosen Li respectively gave academic reports on the formation and evolution dynamics of natural gas hydrates in marine sediments, and numerical and experimental simulation of natural gas hydrate exploitation.

The innovation team will commit itself to the development of the basic theories and key technologies for gas hydrate storage and exploitation by broadening thinking, such as adopting multi-discilpline and multi-level methods, which conforms to the national plan for mid and long-term scientific development and also keeps up with the development trend of relevent technologies. Thus, boasting highly accomplished members and a proper structure, this team has already possessed a solid foundation for future cooperation.

All in all, the establishment of “The innovation team for scientific research in the storage and exploitation of natuaral gas hydrate” symbolizes that an innovative group featuring alliance between giants at home and abroad in the field of gas hydrate research has already taken into shape.
