Low-Carbon Officials’ Delegation from Developing Countries Visits GIEC
On June 4th, a delegation composed of 102 low-carbon development officials and experts from 39 developing countries paid a visit to Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS (GIEC).
During the meeting, Prof. Wu Chuangzhi, president of GIEC, extended warmest welcome to the delegation, and gave a brief introduction about GIEC’s institutional structure, scientific development plan, and research fields, etc. Mr. Chen Yijun, deputy director of the Resource Conservation, Environment & Climate Change Ddivision of Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province, also generally introduced the low-carbon development status-quo in Guangdong province. Later, Dr. Cai Guotian from GIEC elaborated on the environment and challenges facing our efforts in promoting Guangdong’s low carbon development, the fundamental conditions for Guangdong to successfully fulfill its work as the pilot low-carbon province in China as well as the detailed contents of being such a pilot. Ms. Li Bijun, secretary general of Guangdong Low-Carbon Development Promotion Association, introduced the history and development process of this association. The delegation and GIEC experts conducted heated discussion with each other on issues relative to low-carbon development. After the meeting, the delegation also visited the low-carbon exhibition room and the science museum of GIEC.
