GIEC Successfully Builds a New-Type 15KW Straw Prepared Biogas Power Generation Pilot Equipment
Biomass energy is one of the greenest, cheapest and easiest ways to extract energy from. Under cooperation with companies, Professor CHEN Xinde and his team from Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIEC) built a New-Type 15KW Straw Prepared Biogas Power Generation Pilot Equipment. The equipment successfully generated electricity and has been on continuous operation for ten days till 7th, May.
In this research, Prof. Chen used straws as raw materials. The straws were chemically liquefied into water-soluble BOD and fermented via liquid feed. In such way, Prof. Chen and his team developed efficient liquefied hydrolysis technology for straws and also built an equipment by which straws can be efficiently fermented to produce biogas.
The traditional way of fermenting straws was via solid and semisolid feed, which has a long cycle, low mass and heat transfer efficiency, low biogas production, small production scale, and tends to acidate during fermentation. Therefore, Prof. Chen and his team have been making continuous efforts in trying to find a new way of fermentation to eliminate these defects. And this 15KW power generation pilot equipment was a successful try, as it substantially raises the gas-production efficiency, the gas production rate per unit volume, and successfully produces biogas on the same day of feed. Thus, the establishment and operation of this equipment lays a solid foundation for efficient and large-scale biogas production using cellulose biogas materials such as straws.
