Sino-German Numerical Simulation of Geo-reservoirs Symposium& OpenGeoSys Training Course in GIEC

2013-12-03

The Sino-German Numerical Simulation of Geo-reservoirs Symposium & OpenGeoSys Training Course supported by a personal exchange project (PPP), co-sponsored by China Scholarship Council (CSC) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) was convened from 25th to 29th November 2013 in Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC), CAS in Guangzhou

Prof. Olaf Kolditz, head of Department Environmental Informatics (ENVINF), Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Professor of Technische Universität Dresden, four scientists from UFZ and more than twenty participants from Hohai University, Ocean University of China, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, South China Sea Institute Of Oceanology and GIEC participated the symposium and training course. Prof. Nengyou Wu addressed the symposium at first. Prof Kolditz introduced then the fundamental knowledge of numerical simulation and the application areas of OpenGeoSys (OGS). Scientists from UFZ demonstrated the real case of simulation by OGS in the field of energy storage, enhanced geothermal system and reaction and transportation in porous medium. The lecturers also tutored the participants to model the real cases by OGS step by step. All participants introduced their woks with simulation tools in the field of gas hydrates, methane production, shall geothermal system, sea water encroachment etc.

Later on members from Germany and Chinese discussed thoroughly the commonly interested academic fields. A scheme for future cooperation has been proposed.

The further project will launch the further cooperation between Germany and China in the energy and environmental field.
