Plenary meeting of IEC/TC114-2016 was held in GIEC

On April 11-15, the 2016 annual meeting of International Electrotechnical Commission/Technical Committees 114 (IEC/TC114) Marine energy-Wave, Tidal and Other Water Current Converters was held in Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC), Chinese Academy of Sciences. The host of Meeting was National Standardization Administration of China (SAC). Organizers were Harbin Electric Machinery Company Limited and GIEC.

This meeting was chaired by Jonathan Colby, the representative of the United States. Charles Jacquemart, technical officer of IEC Central Office and Danny Peacock, Secretary-General of TC114 attended the meeting. 24 experts from Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, United States of America and the United Kingdom participated in the conference. In addition, 19 Chinese observers from relevant research fields also took part in the meeting.

The agenda mainly included IEC / TC114 Chairman’s Advisory Group (CGA) meeting and plenary meetings. 14 conveners of International Standards Working Groups reported progresses of their Working Groups to the participants respectively. Chief representative of each participating country also addressed progresses on ocean energy conversion equipment technology.

During the meeting, nearly 50 Chinese and foreign experts went to Wanshan Island, Zhuhaifor a technical visit. Experts visited the South China Sea Island Standalone Renewable Energy System and observed the work of 100kW Sharp Eagle wave energy device "Wanshan" in real sea states. Foreign experts highly appraised the Eagle wave energy technology.
