PIFI Distinguished International Scholar Frédéric Kuznik Visited GIEC and Delivered Academic Lecture

2025-03-18

On 13th March, Professor Frédéric Kuznik from Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA Lyon), France, gave an academic lecture at Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), invited by the CAS Key Laboratory of Renewable Energy and the Geothermal and Energy-Saving Technology Research Center. The presentation was chaired by Professor Wenye Lin from Energy Storage Technology Team.

In the presentation, Prof Kuznik comprehensively and in-depth elaborated a series of cutting-edge research results of the INSA in the field of thermal energy storage technology, involving latent heat, physical adsorption and thermochemical energy storage. The presentation systematically demonstrated the deep accumulation and profound development of thermal energy storage technology in the INSA, from the innovative design principle of energy storage materials, the efficient performance mechanism of energy storage reactor to the analysis of application cases in real engineering projects. In addition, based on the deep insight into the current global thermal storage technology research situation, Professor Kuznik made a forward-looking judgement on the future development trend of thermal storage technology from the perspective of material science, system integration and application development, which provided a new academic perspective and research ideas for the researchers present, and greatly stimulated the enthusiasm of the participants in the academic discussion.

Dr. Yinglin Yu, Director of Human Resources and Education Division of GIEC, presented Professor Kuznik with the CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) - Distinguished Scientist certificate. The PIFI program fosters global scientific collaboration, and this honor recognizes Professor Kuznik’s outstanding contributions to energy storage and conversion, as well as his international academic reputation.

Professor Kuznik's visit lasted for one week, during which he visited and exchanged ideas with the research team on energy storage technology, and participated in academic seminars and postgraduate guidance. The visit deepened the collaboration between GIEC and INSA Lyon in the fields of thermal storage technology and building energy efficiency, and laid the foundation for subsequent in-depth cooperation. Both sides plan to collaborate to promote breakthroughs in sustainable energy technology innovation and engineering applications through joint research and talent exchange mechanisms.
