Biomass Gasification and Power-generation Technology Passes Mid-term Evaluation
“Biomass gasification and power-generation technology and its demonstration program” which was undertaken by Professor WU Chuangzhi (Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion) passed mid-term evaluation on Mar. 9. The evaluation was organized by Bureau of High-tech Research and Development Chinese Academy of Sciences and carried out at BoLuo country, Guangdong Province.
The project was set up in Sep., 2008. It aims to establish a kiloton-scale demonstration system of dimethyl ether (DME) production and power generation from biomass gasification; consequently,to form a second-generation liquid fuel production technology system, as well as industrialization mode with highly effective power generation from biomass.
So far, the investigations into some key techniques have been completed in laboratory and pilot scale, including the fluidized bed gasification of biomass with high efficiency and low-tar content, filtrating, reforming and purifying techniques using high-temperature ceramic, synthesis of DME and correlative catalysts. Moreover, 1000-ton scale DME production system has been set up at BoLuo as planned, and running in good conditions.
After the site inspection, experts remarked the project highly in terms of innovation and prospect of application. They believed that it has good prospect to form core technology with independent intellectual property rights, which is in great significance for improving liquid fuel production techniques in China.
Advices from experts include cooperating with enterprises, improving current 1000-ton scale system and optimizing technological parameters, to build a solid foundation for developing a 10000-ton scale DME production system.
