Qinghai Natural Gas Hydrate Exploration & Exploitation Plan Passes Acceptance Inspection

2010-03-30

“The study on natural gas hydrate (NGH) exploration and exploitation plan in QingHai province”, which was untaken by Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) and Guangzhou Center for Gas Hydrate Research, CAS (CGHR) passed acceptance inspection on Mar. 16.

Professor WU Nengyou, the responsible person of the project, reported the research progress, in which NGH exploration and exploitation situations of some countries in permafrost regions were summarized and reviewed, including U.S.A, Japan, Canada, Russia and other countries. On this basis, he analyzed the current situation of China in the aspect of NGH exploration and exploitation foundation and brought forward the key problems having to face.

In the project, some potential areas which are in favor of formation of natural gas hydrate and their mineralization conditions were analyzed. From the standpoint of gas resources and temperature-pressure conditions, the exploration and exploitation prospect of Qinghai permafrost region were evaluated preliminarily. It is concluded that NGH prospect in Qinghai permafrost region is good. Some specific areas with good NGH prospect were figured out as well.

Moreover, a comprehensive research plan was conducted. Some issues related to the exploration and exploitation work were proposed, such as production targets, work description, outline of the plan, technology route and methods, major workload, budget, management and supporting measures.

Experts from inspection panel indicted that the project met the expectation very well and provided a basis for the further exploration and exploitation work in Qinghai permafrost region.
