Academic Seminar in GIEC

2010-09-02

An academic seminar about catalytic conversion of biomass was held in Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) on Aug 27. Dr. Hefang, Langlin, and Liu Qiying, gave presentations respectively. More than 50 researchers and graduate students attended the seminar.

Dr. He Fang, from group of Waste Treatment and Utilization Technologies of GIEC, introduced novel non-flame combustion technology—chemical looping combustion (CLC), and it principle and design of related reactors, especially, the applications of CLC technology in biomass conversion.

Dr. Langlin is from Biomass Thermal-Chemical Conversion Technologies of GIEC. In his presentation, Dr. Lang Lin reviewed research progress in the preparation and application of b-oriented MFI zeolite films. In particular, he summarized and evaluated the very recent research results in the modification of the substrate surface, the preparation of b-oriented MFI zeolite seed layers, and the regulation of hydrothermal synthesis conditions. He also reported the application of MFI films in the pervaporation of bio-ethanol and bio-oil catalytic reforming.

Dr. Liu Qiying, working in the group of Biomass-based Chemical Production Technologies, gave a presentation titled “research on catalytic conversion of vegetable oil”, in which the technologies of producing bio-diesel, green liquid fuel and fine chemical products from vegetable oil and its application background, technique features and catalytic systems were introduced. Moreover, glycerol-based products are kind of by-products of bio-diesel; in his presentation, its catalytic conversion paths and catalytic system were explained as well.
