Recently, “Guiding Guangdong ETS: Design of China’s first regional carbon market with pilot study in key sectors” project was formally approved by both Chinese and British authorities. Research Fellow Zhao Daiqing will lead the project.

2010, China launched national wide low-carbon pilot project and selected 5 provinces which including Guangdong and 8 cities to initiate the low-carbon work. Low carbon but high growth model is the only way to achieve China’s sustainable development.

The SPF Project will learn and share the experiences of emission trading mechanisms from Britain and other countries to raise feasible solutions for Guangdong to establish the ETS system by considering the development feature of Guangdong Province and select typical industries to implement the trial emission trading.

Implementation of the project will contribute to establish the emission trading system that combined Governments promotions and market actions for Guangdong.
