Research Progress Exchange Meeting is Convened on the Project of “Herbaceous Energy Plants Nurturing and Basic Research on Catalytic-chemical Preparation for Advanced Liquid Fuel”

2012-06-21

From June 15th to June 16th, 2012, the key national project (973 Program) undertaken by Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS(GIEC) named “Herbaceous Energy Plants Nurturing and Basic Research on Catalytic-chemical Preparation for Advanced Liquid Fuel” had its 2012 phase progress meeting in Institute of Coal Chemistry, CAS(ICC).

Prof. Ma Longlong, chief scientist of the project and deputy director of GIEC, presided over the meeing. Firstly, Prof. Cai Rong, the secretary of the Party committee of ICC, gave greetings and openning remarks. Afterwards, research progresses in this project were detailedly reported by the present experts, among whom are Prof. Yu Jingjuan from China Agricultural University, Prof. Ouyang xinping from South China University of Technology, Dr. Yang Honghui from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Associate Prof. Liu Qiying from GIEC, Prof. Zhu Yulei from ICC, and Prof. Fu Yao from University of Science and Technology of China. Experts and the project team members had an in-depth discussion on the reports and also issues relative, such as energy resource nurturing, depolymerization and following-up catalytic conversion. After summarizing the accomplishments achieved as well as the problems remained during the implementation of the project, Prof. Ma Longlong proposed several constructive suggestions. It is hoped that better communication and collaboration between and inside different sectors would be achieved so as to strive for international-standard research outcomes and take the lead in biomass energy research on the international arena. Prof. Wang Yang, a consulting expert of 973 program energy section, also offered some guiding suggestions for the project. He proposed to resolve the bottleneck problem in effective and thorough biomass conversion through enhancing researches in biomass aqueous catalytic reaction mechanism and basic theories of catalyst, which would definitely help lay a solid theoretical foundation for industrialization of biomass fuels in the future.

The meeting plays a great role in guiding and promoting successful development in the following stage of the project.
