2012-11-09

On Oct. 29th, a progress report meeting of the Project “Key Technology and Demonstration of 1000 t/y scaled liquid fuel production by biomass gasification” was held in Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS. The project belongs to the National Science and Technology Support Program. And the meeting was presided by Prof. Yin Xiuli, leader of this project.

Based on development level of biomass energy utilization techonology in China and also on the characteristics of biomass synthesis gas, the project focuses on the research in key processes and system integration of liquid fuel production by biomass gasification. Great efforts were also exerted in making breakthroughs in technologies such as the low-cost biomass gasificatoin technology, gas purification technology, technology of one-step production of mixture of lower alcohols by synthesis gasification, and technology of diesel production from DME by catalytic conversion. The project aims to develop a new way of producing mixture of lower carbon and high-quality gasoline and diesel, and manage to offer a technology package which ensures 10000 t/a scaled liquid fuel production, thus providing strong technical support for the development of biomass gasification liquid fuel industry.

After a whole year’s stressful yet well-organized work, quite a few innovative research accomplishments have been yielded in fields such as low-cost biomass gasificatoin technology, R&D in synthesis technology and catalysts materials, reaction technology optimization, and system integration, etc. Spacifically speaking, 27 papers were issued, among which 12 were included in SCI, and the other 15 were included in EI. Nine domestic invention patents were applied. In addition, a 1000 t/a scaled biomass oxy-liquid fuel demonstration base was established and the infrastructure construction of a 100 t/a gasoline and diesel production pilot plant was finished.

During the meeting, project team members carried out sufficient and in-depth exchange of ideas on the research progresses and existed problems. Four priorities were pointed out for further development in future, which are as follows: 1. Further construction of 1000 t/a scaled biomass oxy-liquid fuel demonstration base. 2. Magnified experiment of biomass crude gas high-temperature purification. 3. Magnified research in mixture of lower alcohols, and methanol/DME conversion into gasoline and diesel through composite zeolite catalyst. 4. Upgrading the lab condition for the two-stage cycle reaction process of converting syngas into gasoline and diesel through DME as well as the design and construction of the pilot plant system.
