The Project “Hydrogen and Methane Co-generation Key Technology Through Perishable Organic Wastes Preparation” Achieves Success

2014-02-28

On February 19, a meeting was convened to appraise the achievements of the project “Hydrogen and Methane Co-generation Key Technology Through Perishable Organic Wastes Preparation” undertaken by Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS. The appraisal team consists of seven experts from domestic universities and research institutes.

Through the project, Prof. YUAN Zhenhong and his team successfully invented the technology of producing hydrogen and methane simultaneously through perishable organic wastes treatment, developed the solid filtration bed hydrolysis acidification reactor and fiber-packed bed methane reactor, constructed stable-operating hydrogen and methane co-generation pilot plant, thus resolving the organic acid suppression problem due to single-phase high concentration fermentation of the wastes.

The appraisal team acknowledged that the technology is highly innovative and advanced, and also suggested its early industrialization.
