The Project “Energy Efficiency Benchmarking in Cement, Steel and petrochemical industries and Quantitative Research of Carbon Emission” Achieved Success

2014-03-13

Energy Strategy is significant to the development of low-carbon society. Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, CAS (GIEC) leads three other associations, namely Guangdong Cement Association, Guangdong Petroleum & Chemical Association and Guangdong Steal Association, to jointly undertake the project “Energy Efficiency Benchmarking in Cement, Steel and petrochemical industries and Quantitative Research of Carbon Emission”. The project was acknowledged success by experts after the meeting on March 11, 2014.

The research team field studied 58 companies during one and a half year, Dr. WANG Peng from GIEC said, we have collected detailed benchmarking sample data of the three industries, improved the current benchmarking framework, formed more detailed division of technical skills, industry scale, and product type. More importantly, by referring to relevant domestic and international standards, the research team rated various industries’ limit value, access value, advanced value and benchmarking value, thus laying down a set of scientific, practical and convenient standards for energy efficiency management. This can be used for guiding energy saving assessment of new projects as well as energy conservation transformation.

Prof. WANG Peng reported the implementation, finance and outcomes of the project. The assessment experts unanimously acknowledged the project a success, and also suggested further simplification of the standards to better meet the needs of future energy saving assessment in Guangdong Province
