GIEC Successfully Co-host the 6th G-STIC Conference

The 6th Global Sustainable Technological and Innovation Conference (G-STIC) was successfully held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during February 13-15, 2023. It was the fourth time that Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIEC) participated in the conference as co-host. GIEC co-organize the Energy Cluster with Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Araucaria Foundation (AF), FederalUniversity of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE), and Atlantic International Research Centre (Aircentre). The conference was held onsite and streamlined online.

 

The Energy Cluster focused on innovations and challenges of integrated energy technologies for achieving carbon neutrality target. Ms. Ana Beatriz Martins, Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union Delegation, gave the semi-plenary speech. Prof. Zhengrong Shi, academician of Australian Academy of Technology, Science and Engineering, professor of Shanghai Electric Power University and chief scientist of GIEC, delivered a keynote speech entitled Current Status and Future Prospects of Solar/Renewable Energy, elaborating the current status and prospects of solar and renewable energy development in China.

 

There are two deep dive sessions on advanced biomass utilization technology and renewable energy comprehensive utilization respectively. Prof. Chenguang Wang from GIEC gave a presentation named Sustainable Aviation Fuel From Lignocelulose by Aqueous Reforming, introducing the advanced technology of biomass aviation fuel production. Mr. Yueqing Wang, president of State Power Investment Overseas Co., Ltd of China, was invited to give a presentation entitled SPIC's Practice of Green Energy Conversion, sharing the successful experience in comprehensive utilization of renewable energy.

 

G-STICthe global sustainable technology and innovation community, is dedicated to accelerating market-ready integrated technological solutions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference was initiated by VITO in Belgium and has been successfully held for five sessions since 2017. Previously, GIEC participated as co-host in the 3rd, 4th and 5th conferences for organizing the Energy Cluster.
