GIEC and LG Electronics Sign Strategic Cooperation Memorandum

On January 30, 2026, LG Electronics and the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), signed a strategic cooperation memorandum in Guangzhou, initiating collaboration in green technology. Representatives from the South Korean Consulate General in Guangzhou, including Consul of Commercial Affairs Mr. Joungseon Kim, witnessed and supported the signing.

The partnership will establish a joint laboratory, focusing on three key areas: advanced materials for home appliances, heat exchange and system efficiency, and waste plastic recycling. The collaboration aims to integrate LG's industry expertise with GIEC’s research capabilities to accelerate green technology breakthroughs and industrial application.

Yuan Haoran, Deputy Director-General of GIEC, stated that the cooperation supports global sustainability and the green transition of the appliance industry. LG Nanjing R&D Center Director Kim Youngsoo, HS Fundamental Technology Lab Director Yoon Pilhyun, and HS Applied Technology Lab Director Jun Hyunwoo expressed their commitment to advancing energy-saving and circular economy technologies through joint innovation.

Following the signing, attendees visited GIEC’s laboratories and partner company Kingfa Science and Technology. The collaboration is positioned to serve as a practical example of China-South Korea industry-academia-research cooperation in green technology, supporting progress toward carbon neutrality and circular economy goals.
